Geeky Rambles with Charelle and Karina Episode 15

Music in TV and film: beginners edition

Welcome friends!

This week Charelle and Karina kick off the episode with their extended Top 5, as per usual. Karina talks about The Tasty Florida, a South Korean BL that is super sweet cotton candy fluff. Charelle goes to the opposite end of the spectrum with the angsty Sense8, an American sci-fi fantasy drama.

The main topic of this episode is music in tv and film! Karina explains what a lietmotif is using Star Wars as an example. The exceptional and well known composer John Williams used Holst’s The Planets as inspiration for his epic musical accompaniment to this universe.

Charelle shares her favourite use of lietmotifs in Doctor Who, particularly seasons 9, 10, and 11 with Murray Gold as composer; as well as an example of emotive use in an episode with Peter Capaldi playing the Doctor and Jenna Coleman playing Clara.

Karina once again takes the opportunity to talk about We Are and the use of music in the show. Specifically how each couple has their own song. So cute, check out the music videos!
